What is the fourth Gospel?

In the New Testament, the four Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The label “fourth Gospel” refers to John because it is the last of the four in the traditional order of the canon. John’s Gospel stands apart in its approach and content, focusing on Jesus as the divine Word and emphasizing belief, eternal life, and deep theological dialogue, including famous “I am” statements. So, when asked which Gospel is the fourth, the answer is the Gospel of John. The other three—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—come before it in that standard order.
