What is the purpose of the gifts given to church leaders described in scripture?

Gifts given to church leaders are meant to equip God’s people for works of service, so the whole body is built up. Scripture describes leaders—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—as gifts from Christ to the church to train and empower believers. This training aims to unify the church and help everyone grow in faith and the knowledge of Jesus, reaching spiritual maturity. It’s about edifying the body through ministry, not about generating wealth, managing property, or deciding how long a sermon should be.
